Classes
I will be offering classes again in the Summertime, 2006. Please contact me if you are interested for more information. dihughes@oct.net Most classes will be groups of 4. Family discounts for 3 or more are available. Scheduling for student convenience.

Calligraphy I and II and III — Recommended for students 14 +. Pens not included, but other supplies are. Felt tip pens will be available to start.

  • Calligraphy I will include the basic lower case alphabet and capitals for either Italics, Early Gothic, or Carolingian and basic borders and page layout. 8 classes -- $96 ($12 per class per person)
  • Calligraphy II will include more borders, drawn capitals (versals), and other decorative techniques and more complicated page layouts. 2-4 classes ($12 per class per person)
  • Calligraphy III will include illumination (use of gold and silver), construction of vine borders and other complex leaf decorations as used in Gothic and early Renaissance manuscripts. ($12 per class per person)
Drawing — Each class will be designed for the particular group of students and their experience. Beginning classes will learn to draw from looking at the world around us. They will follow the example of the great masters of art such as Da Vinci, Durer, Rembrandt, and Watteau learning to use line with sensitive descriptive ability. (4 class blocks $48/student)

Watercolor I and II —

Drawing / Watercolor —

Variety — may include drawing, painting, bisque ceramic painting, handbuilt clay, puppets, origami and more. Plans for particular classes will be made to suit each group. This class is especially recommended for younger students and those who would like to try a number of different mediums. (4 class blocks $48/student)

Flower arranging, fresh and/or permanent — Ages 15+

  • Fresh flower classes will be 3 consecutive days, to include two evenings of 1 1/2 hours of demonstration and instruction on Thursday and Friday evenings and 2 hours of practical on Saturday morning. At that time students will use the flowers provided (and others if they wish) to create their own fresh arrangement to take home.
  • Silk - or permanent - flower arranging classes will also include 3 hours of demonstration and instruction and 2 hours of practical. Students will be able to purchase flowers from me or elsewhere to use in their piece to take home. I will provide supplies - foam, wire, tape, etc.

Oil Painting - The first class will include two half days; one of demonstration and instruction, and the other practical. Students will need a portable easle, and their own supplies.
